Professional or DIY flooring installation?

Some go so far as to say the installation is even more important than the flooring material itself.

Orion Flooring Inc has combined staff experience of over 25 years, and we’re not the typical online store. We have three brick and mortar showroom locations so you can see and feel the product, not just eyeball it on a piece of paper; then we ship it to any address (worldwide) that you give us.

We carry a fully stocked inventory of various flooring types, as well as products to complement your home improvement project, including stone slab, kitchen cabinets, mosaic porcelain, glass, and art tile.

Flooring is one of the biggest--if not the biggest investments you’ll make in your home. Protect it well and believe the installation service if they say it shouldn’t be tackled on a DIY basis. It could also save you money in the long-term; if the manufacturer has specifications that aren’t followed damages, even those not the fault of the homeowner, may not be covered.

We have three showroom locations: Hesperia, Rialto, Anaheim, CA. and service surrounding areas such as Glendora and Redlands. Be sure to ask about our estimates.

First, DIY-friendly floorings

Some, like laminate and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile (LVT), can be installed over most existing subfloors. The pieces just click together.

If, however, you are installing LVP or LVT in sheet form, it might be a different story. Sheets are big and heavy, and you will have to cut. That requires precision. Even if the measurement is only slightly off, it can affect the entire appearance (including, especially, patterning if that applies.)

As for underlayment, don’t install another one if there’s already an existing pre-attached one; it could make the floor uneven and too thick. We do recommend a professional installation here if you are not familiar with the process.

Flooring that only should be professionally installed

Do you know the difference between a carpet stretcher and knee-kicker, and when one should be used in place of the other?

Carpet is often in rooms that aren't perfect squares, with moldings, baseboards and door ledges that require precise measurement and skill. If not stretched and measured properly, you'll end up with wrinkles, rolls, and waste.

Tile is heavy and the installation is backbreaking. Cutting requires special saws. If the flooring layout is wrong, there’s no going back to fix it, so best leave it to a professional provider.
